Curriculum & Costs

This is a custom Master of Arts degree with an embedded Digital and Inclusive Pedagogies (DIP) Graduate Certificate from the CU Denver Learning Design & Technology (LDT) program.

The program requires 24 credit hours from CU Denver and 6 credit hours within SVVSD, running as a cohort from Spring 2027 through Fall 2028. CU courses are drawn from the university catalog and customized to SVVSD themes and priorities.

Each course is taught in a hybrid format and co-taught by CU Denver and SV faculty. CU courses require online participation via CU's instructional systems (Canvas & Zoom) and in-person participation at the SV Innovation Center.

SPRING 2027 (6 credits)

INTE 6750: Trends and Issues in Learning Design & Technology examines definitions, history, core concepts, and current trends and issues related to the practice of instructional technology. Topics include instructional systems design, theories of learning and instruction, change management, performance improvement, emerging technologies, equity and access, and mobile learning. INTE 5010: Humanizing Learning Design considers and respects learner diversity, including differences in ability and personal background. Students critique and create course materials that are mindful of the whole person, align with accessibility standards and follow universal design guidelines. Laura McCalister & Jody Garner

SUMMER 2027 (3 credits)

INTE 5320: Games & Learning examines the use of games for learning and education across formal and informal environments. Students will survey contemporary learning theory, media, trends, and challenges related to designing and playing games in informal, community-based, online, and school settings. FALL 2027 (3 credits)

INTE 5830: Special Topics (SSVSD-Centered Instructional Design) explores the intersection of learning design, coaching, and mentoring to create effective adult learning experiences. Through critical examination of research, hands-on projects, and reflective practice, you will engage with key concepts in adult learning, training models, design principles, performance support, and evaluation strategies. SPRING 2028 (6 credits)

INTE 5830: Special Topics (Minds, Media, and Machines) examines learning and development in an era saturated by technology, information, media, and intelligent systems. Grounded in learning science and cognitive psychology, the course explores how these environments shape attention, memory, knowledge, judgment, and agency—and what educators can do to cultivate capable, discerning, and adaptable learners. INTE 5750: AI-Enhanced Pedagogy examines how artificial intelligence transforms teaching and learning through multiple lenses—as designers, instructors, and professionals navigating ethics—grounded in critical pedagogy and Garrison’s Community of Inquiry framework. Dennis DeBay & Matt Moulton

SUMMER 2028 (3 credits)

INTE 6930: Internship in Learning Technologies (SVVSD Externship) takes an ethnographic approach to the learning economy, positioning educators as participant-observers in digital learning teams beyond traditional classroom settings. Learners engage in fieldwork with partner organizations to assist, experience, observe, and document the greater learning ecosystem. Learners return to the seminar to interpret observations, compare experiences across settings, and consider notions of redesign, alignment, and effective practices, routinely asking how might we partner or align outside our norms? What can we learn from them? What can they learn from us? Brad Hinson & Jody Gardner

FALL 2028 (3 credits)

INTE 6950: Experiential Thesis (SSVSD Learning Science Fair) is a program capstone that provides the opportunity and support necessary for students to produce their final thesis project and Learning Science Fair presentation. Students are required to produce a thesis project which demonstrates their own learning and human development across the LDT program. Projects will be submitted and presented online as well as in-person at a capstone Learning Science Fair at the SVVSD Innovation Center. Brad Hinson & Suzy Evans

SVVSD Courses (6 credits)

These must be complete by Fall 2028, but could also apply retroactive credit for courses already taken. Can only use 1 of each, i.e., if you already have a Science of Learning credit, you need to take something else for the remaining 4 credits.

Program Costs

Through its partnership with CU Denver, SVVSD is helping provide a customized Learning Design & Technology program designed around district priorities and supported by collaborative instruction. Participants are responsible for their own tuition and program fees.
